Reflective Writing

As we conclude our second research paper we are going to reflect on two of the resources we used for these papers. I will analyze the currency, relevancy, accuracy, authority, and point of view of these articles. My first source is a source that probably was not wise to use when trying to write a non-biased paper about GMOs.  GMO facts by the Non-GMO Project is an incredibly biased source for the defense against GMOs. Since GMOs are a relatively new idea this website is very current.  This website is very relevant to my topic because it discusses how poorly GMOs effect human health and society. However, this is the reason this article does not work well because it is corrupted by the bias it holds.  The accuracy of this article to be used in my paper is greatly used to promote the destruction of GMOs.  There is not just one single author of this website but instead there are many people who collaborate to make it, and they probably have quite a bot of authority on the topic. The point of view from this article is to eliminate GMOs all together and how they poorly effect the society that humans live in, including their health and the economy.

The second source I used that was very beneficial to my paper was Genetically Modified Foods: Harmful or Helpful by Deborah Whitman.  This article was written in 2000 so it is somewhat current, not incredibly irrelevant to the times at hand.  This article is incredibly relevant to my paper because it discusses both sides of the GMO argument not being biased at all towards others and simply laying out the facts as they are. This article seems to be entirely accurate, she uses many references and seems to have a very good understanding of what she is talking about. The author Deborah Whitman has no proof of her credibility but she wrote from references and not from her own knowledge.  And lastly, what is the point of view of this article? It is simply to analyze what GMOs are and what the pros and cons are. It is not biased nor are the specific guidelines that it must follow to meet the websites need. It was truly the most helpful source I used.
